Key Reasons Why Jesus is the Prince of Peace

Key Reasons Why Jesus is the Prince of Peace

Peace on earth, Is it possible? Yes, it is, through Jesus! In this post then we will look at the key reasons why Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Our Bible Quotation of Focus

When we say that Jesus is the Prince of Peace we are quoting the Bible which says, “For unto us [unto humanity] a child [named Jesus] is born, unto us a son is given: and the government [of the earth] shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6.

Now you may be wondering what is meant by “Isaiah 9:6.” It is what is called Bible notation which is a way of referencing the Bible. That is, the Bible is a collection of books, where each book in the Bible consists of one or more chapters, and each chapter has numbered sections called verses. The quotation referred to as “Isaiah 9:6” is taken from the book titled Isaiah in the Bible, the 9th chapter, and the 6th verse.

Who is God?

Again, you may be asking, Who is Jesus? Well, before we can understand who Jesus is, we must first understand who God is.

“God” (Genesis 1:1) is the most common name given in the Bible to a divine Family which is also called “the Godhead” (Acts 17:29) in the Bible. This Family, the Godhead, consists of three Persons each of whom is “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life.” Hebrews 7:3.

So, the Godhead has three members and, No, there are not three Gods! Why? Because the members of the Godhead never contradict each other at any time. They speak with one voice, and so we can say, “there is one God.” Mark 12:32.

What are the names of these three Persons in the Godhead? Their names are “the Father” (Matthew 11:27), “the Son” (Psalm 2:12) also called Christ (Matthew 1:1), and “the Holy Spirit” (Psalm 51:11).

What is God like? An important point to grasp about God is that He is “God, that cannot lie” (Titus 1:2) and “God is love.” 1 John 4:8. That is to say, each member of the Godhead has a character of love that is identical to that of the other members, and the love in God’s heart is the only definition of true love in the universe.

Who is Jesus?

Now that we have some understanding of who God is, we can now understand who Jesus is.

God says, “The angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused [promised in marriage] to a man whose name was Joseph…and the virgin’s name was Mary.” Luke 1:6, 27.

“And the angel came in unto her [to Mary], and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she [Mary] saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind [thoroughly considered] what manner of salutation [greeting] this should be.” Luke 1:28, 29.

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.” Luke 1:30, 31.

“Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man [I have never been sexually intimate with a man]? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit] shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:34, 35.

So, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born on earth in human flesh over 2,000 years ago. And Jesus was “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), and at the same time He was “the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5. In other words, Jesus was 100% God and 100% human at the same time. How could this be? “This is a great mystery” (Ephesians 5:32) which God has not revealed to humanity, and, therefore we cannot say how this could be.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Everlasting Covenant

Now the first thing we will consider about Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the relationship between Jesus and what is known as “the everlasting covenant.” Genesis 9:16.

The everlasting covenant is a contract, that has always existed between God and Jesus Christ even before God created any intelligent beings, such as the human race. For it was God’s plan to extend His family by creating intelligent beings, including the human race, and to give them eternal life to live joyfully in the ways of love with God forever.

In creating all His intelligent beings in the universe, God made them with a character of love just like God’s and also gave them free will to do whatever they pleased. But God recognised that with their free will these beings, including the human race, could choose to sin, which is to do evil.

So, there was a contract between God and Jesus Christ that, if ever any intelligent being should sin and, therefore, deserve to be annihilated by God, God would give them a second chance through Jesus Christ to live forever.

Thus, in the case of the human race with which the whole Bible is concerned, the terms of the everlasting covenant were to give to humanity the “hope of eternal life [through Jesus Christ, even though they would have sinned] which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2).

Why would God do such a thing? Because God’s love not only requires that justice be done in annihilating all sinners, but also that mercy be first shown to those guilty of sin. For God would rather save his intelligent beings from annihilation than destroy them.

In other words, if the love, joy, peace, and harmony of the universe were to be disrupted by sin in the human race, then Jesus as “The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6) would, by His work, restore the universe to its original state of bliss with its corresponding peace and harmony.

God’s Planned Implementation of the Everlasting Covenant

Now God says, “Who [Which human being] can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” Job 14:4. In other words, God knew that it would be impossible for sin-polluted humanity to cleanse their own hearts from sin and, hence, become pure and holy in love just like God.

So, God, likening humanity to a tree, says, “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax [grows] old in the earth, and the stock [trunk] thereof die in the ground; yet through the scent of water [by means of water] it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.” Job 14:7-9.

Therefore, God says, “Chasten [discipline] thy son [and daughter] while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.” Proverbs 19:18. God’s plan then was to give the Holy Spirit to those people who were willing to receive the Spirit, and to thus discipline humanity so that they could be cleansed from all their sins and, therefore, be saved by God to eternal life.

But of those people who would refuse God’s plan to save them from annihilation, God says, “God shall…destroy thee for ever, he [God] shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah [Think on these things].” Psalm 52:5.

This then was God’s planned implementation of the everlasting covenant in response to the possibility of the sin problem in the human race.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Controversy in Heaven

Now God went ahead with His desire to extend His family, and so God created intelligent beings whom God could love as His own children and who, in turn, could love God for who He is, the God whose character is love.

The Happy State of the Universe

What was the universe like when God created intelligent beings? Well, God, speaking of Himself, says, “The LORD [God] hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all [the universe].” Psalm 103:19.

“Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre [the symbol of your royal authority] of thy kingdom is a right [a righteous symbol of royal authority] sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness.” Psalm 45:6, 7.

Therefore, the language of the heart of all the intelligent beings whom God created, before God had created humanity, was that they said among themselves, “Bless the LORD [God], ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto [obeying] the voice of his word…Bless the LORD [God], all his works [all the intelligent beings of the worlds] in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD [God], O my soul.” Psalm 103:20-22.

So, at this time, there was love, joy, peace, and harmony throughout the universe. The intelligent beings loved God and each other and God loved them all.

God’s Diagnosis and Response to Lucifer’s Heart

There came a time, however, when regarding and angel named “Lucifer” (Isaiah 14:12), “thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou [Lucifer] sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so…Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity [wickedness] was found in thee.” Ezekiel 28:11-15.

“By the multitude of thy [Lucifer’s] merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned [done evil]: therefore I [God] will cast thee as profane [irreverent and sin-polluted] out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy [annihilate] thee, O covering cherub.” Ezekiel 28:16.

“Thine [Lucifer’s] heart was lifted up [in pride] because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness [splendour]: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.” Ezekiel 28:17.

“Thou [Lucifer] hast defiled thy sanctuaries [defiled the angels under your charge] by the multitude of thine iniquities [wickedness], by the iniquity [evil] of thy traffick [trading]; therefore will I [God] bring forth a fire from the midst of thee [Lucifer], it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.” Ezekiel 28:18, 19.

For “thus saith the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 28:2), “Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud” (Jeremiah 50:31), “because thine heart is lifted up [in pride], and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God…yet thou art a man [an angel], and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God.” Ezekiel 28:2.

“Where is the flock [of holy angels] that was given thee [Lucifer], thy beautiful flock?” Jeremiah 13:20. Here God calls Lucifer to answer for his having corrupted many of the angels with evil.

This then is God’s diagnosis and response to Lucifer’s heart which caused a controversy in heaven. For the happy state and peace of the universe was broken when evil was introduced by Lucifer. As it happened, Lucifer caused other angels to join him in his rebellion against God. And because Lucifer and his “evil angels” (Psalm 78:49) would not turn from their wicked ways, God cast them out of heaven pending God’s Judgment Day.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Controversy on Earth

Now God, speaking of himself, said, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day [of God’s creation].” Genesis 1:31.

“And God said, Let us make man [humanity] in our image [with our character of love], after our likeness [with a form like God’s]…So God created [a] man [named Adam] in his own image [with a character of love like God’s character], in the image of God created he him; male [Adam] and female [a woman named Eve] created he them.” Genesis 1:26, 27.

Thus, there was perfect love, joy, peace, and harmony on earth when God created the first human pair, Adam and Eve.

God Diagnoses Humanity’s Heart

Now God says, “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man [Adam, and the woman, Eve,] whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” Genesis 2:8, 9.

“And the LORD God took the man [Adam], and put him into the garden of Eden to dress [to care] it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Genesis 2:15-17.

Note that after Lucifer’s rebellion in heaven, God referred to him as “that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan.” Revelation 12:9. And God said, “Thou [Satan] hast been in Eden the garden of God.” Ezekiel 28:13.

As “the tempter” (Matthew 4:3), Satan tempted Eve to sin, which is to do evil. As a result, “when the woman [Eve] saw that the tree [of the knowledge of good and evil] was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband [Adam] with her; and he did eat.” Genesis 3:6. Thus, both Adam and Eve sinned when they disobeyed God and stole the fruit of the tree from which God had forbidden them to eat.

So, immediately, Adam’s and Eve’s character was changed by their sin from one of love to selfishness. And it happened then that “Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat [fathered] a son in his own likeness, after his image [according to Adam’s own character of selfishness]; and called his name Seth.” Genesis 5:3. Thus, by God’s great law of heredity, Adam’s and Eve’s evil character of selfishness was inherited by Seth, and likewise it has also been inherited by all their descendants, that is, by the whole human race.

Therefore, the natural language of the heart of the entire human race is that “they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways [of love]. What is the Almighty [God], that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?” Job 21:14, 15.

Thus, the whole human race is alienated from God and there is no peace on earth. This then is God’s diagnosis of the human heart.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Counsel of Peace

What was God to do in the face of sin in Adam and Eve? Well, as was said before, God had made a plan called the everlasting covenant to recover the human race from sin. But would God indeed give up Jesus Christ to suffering and death to save the human race from annihilation? Would God keep His promise?

The answer is that God is “He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.” Psalm 15:4. Yes, it was a struggle for God in the face of the terrible emergency regarding the human race to fulfil God’s own promise! Notwithstanding this, God went straight ahead with His planned response to humanity’s sin problem.

Thus, God said, “even he [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] shall build the [spiritual] temple of the LORD [God which would be made up of all the righteous people who had ever lived]; and he [Jesus] shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his [Jesus’] throne; and he [Jesus] shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both [the Father and Jesus Christ].” Zechariah 6:13.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son [Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace], that whosoever believeth in him should not perish [be annihilated by God], but have everlasting life [from God].” John 3:16.

That is, through Jesus, God would reconcile the human race to Himself, thus putting an end to the controversy between God and humanity because of humanity’s sins, and thereby bring about peace on earth. Here then is another reason why Jesus is “The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)—because of the counsel of peace between Himself and the Father that put the promise of the everlasting covenant into action.

God’s Response to Humanity’s Heart

In response then to the sin-pollution of the human heart, God says to humanity, “Thou hast played the harlot [prostitute] with many lovers [with Satan and his evil angels, who are all known as demons]; yet return again to me, saith the LORD [God].” Jeremiah 3:1.

For, through Jesus, the Prince of Peace, God would bless humanity with the Holy Spirit as Jesus’ own Representative. For the Holy Spirit would discipline humanity and impart moral strength to cause them to stop sinning. Hence, such persons would receive eternal life from God.

And “a noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD [God] hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh [all human beings]; he will give them that are wicked to the sword [to annihilation], saith the LORD [God].” Jeremiah 25:31.

Thus, God seeks to win, if at all possible, the hearts of the whole human race to Himself. But those people that refuse to be reconciled to God and who persist in wickedness, God will annihilate.

At this point, for clarity and completeness, before we continue with our main topic of this post which is why Jesus is the Prince of Peace, I will explain why Jesus, “his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father.” Isaiah 9:6.

Why is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Called Wonderful?

Now according to our Bible verse of focus in this post, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, “his name shall [also] be called Wonderful.” Isaiah 9:6. Why?

Because every human being can say in truth, “Very pleasant hast thou [God] been unto me: thy [God’s] love to me was wonderful.” 2 Samuel 1:26. “For [God says] the [spiritual] house [made up of all the righteous persons who have ever lived] which I [God] am about to build [through Jesus Christ, to give them eternal life] shall be wonderful great.” 2 Chronicles 2:9.

And “He [God] hath made his wonderful works [of love and compassion] to be remembered: the LORD [God] is gracious and full of compassion.” Psalm 111:4. This then is why Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace, is called Wonderful.

“Oh that men [people] would praise the LORD [God] for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men [toward humanity]!” Psalm 107:8.

Why is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Called Counsellor?

Also, our Bible verse of focus in this post says, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, “his name shall [also] be called…Counsellor.” Isaiah 9:6. Again, we ask, Why?

“For I [God] beheld, and there was no man [no person]; even among them [among humanity], and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them [of humanity], could answer a word [to justify humanity’s evil ways].” Isaiah 41:28.

But God, speaking of Himself, says, “Thy [God’s] testimonies [solemn declarations of fact] are wonderful” (Psalm 119:129), “thy [God’s] counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Isaiah 25:1.

That is, God is “a wise counsellor” (1 Chronicles 26:14), in that, “great is our Lord [God], and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Psalm 147:5.

In other words, “there is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD [God].” Proverbs 21:30. And, therefore, every human being should be such as have “asked…counsel at the mouth of the LORD [God].” Joshua 9:14. This then is why Jesus, who is God and who is also the Prince of Peace, is called Counsellor.

Let us then say, “Now unto the King [God] eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:17.

Why is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Called the Mighty God?

And further, our Bible verse of focus in this post, says, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, “his name shall [also] be called…The mighty God.” Isaiah 9:6. Once more, we ask, Why?

Because God says, “There is no God else beside me…there is none beside me.” Isaiah 45:21. “Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” Isaiah 43:10.

And speaking of Himself, God says, “From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalm 90:2), “who is the blessed and only Potentate [the only monarch of the universe], the King of kings, and Lord of lords; who only [alone] hath [the permanent, inseparable quality of] immortality [of an endless life].” 1 Timothy 6:15, 16.

For “behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh [all humanity]: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27. And humanity can reply saying in truth, “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee” (Jeremiah 32:17), “for with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37.

This then is the reason why Jesus, who is God and who is also the Prince of Peace, is called, The mighty God.

Why is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Called the Everlasting Father?

Moreover, our Bible verse of focus in this post, says, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, “his name shall [also] be called…The everlasting Father.” Isaiah 9:6. Why?

Because Jesus is “the express image [exact representation] of his [the Father’s] person [character].” Hebrews 1:3. Thus, Jesus, while He was on earth, said, “He that hath seen me [Jesus] hath seen the Father.” John 14:9.

“For I [Jesus] came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him [the Father] that sent me [to the earth].” John 6:38. And “I [Jesus] have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” John 15:10.

This then is the reason why Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is called, The everlasting Father.

Having now clarified some things about Jesus, we will continue to look at the key reasons why Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Promises of the Everlasting Covenant

As was said before, God had made a plan called the everlasting covenant to save humanity, if humanity were to sin, from annihilation through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Then came the terrible emergency regarding the human race because of Adam’s and Eve’s sins, and in the counsel of peace between the Father and Christ, God gave Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, to the human race to save them from their sins.

We will, therefore, now look at the unfolding of the everlasting covenant on earth in the face of humanity’s sins.

A Brief Word About Chronology

In what follows, we will be discussing time, and so a brief word about chronology is necessary at this point.

This year, 2022, is actually known as 2022 A.D. What does the A.D. mean? Well, 1 A.D. is meant to be the year when Jesus Christ was born, where A.D. is the abbreviation of the Latin phrase Anno Domini meaning “in the year of our Lord.” So, 2022 A.D. is meant to be 2,022 years since Jesus Christ was born.

The years before Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, was born are referred to as B.C. meaning “Before Christ.” So, 147 B.C. is 147 years before Jesus was born. Note that 533 B.C. is an earlier date that 42 B.C.

Now, after the year 1 A.D. was established, it was discovered that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born a few years earlier than was believed, in about 5 B.C.

The Everlasting Covenant Before the Worldwide Flood

When Adam and Eve sinned, in approximately the year 3958 B.C. according to Bible data, Christ came to the garden of Eden where they were and spoke to Satan in their hearing.

And Christ said to Satan, “I [Christ] will put enmity between thee [Satan] and the woman [Eve], and between thy seed [your, Satan’s, followers] and her seed [her descendant, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace]; it [Jesus Christ] shall bruise thy [Satan’s] head, and thou [Satan] shalt bruise his [Jesus Christ’s] heel.” Genesis 3:15.

Here then was the first revelation of the existence of the everlasting covenant to any of God’s intelligent beings, and specifically, to Satan’s and his evil angels’ and to the human ears of Adam and Eve.

According to this revelation, Christ who is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, as humanity’s Representative before God, would enter singlehandedly into war with Satan and his followers. In this combat, Jesus Christ would give Satan, figuratively speaking, “a deadly wound” to his head, and in the process would suffer harm Himself.

Thus, Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace, made a promise to Adam and Eve to put a hatred for sin and Satan in their own hearts, and in the hearts of those of their descendants who were willing to receive it. And such persons who had a change of heart from God, from their natural selfishness to love, would receive eternal life from God.

In the process of time after the promise made to Adam and Eve, “GOD saw that the wickedness of man [humanity] was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man [humanity] on the earth, and it grieved him [God] at his heart.” Genesis 6:5, 6.

So, “the LORD [God] said, I will destroy man [all humanity] whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace [favour] in the eyes of the LORD [God, because Noah was righteous].” Genesis 6:7, 8.

And God said, “And, behold, I [God], even I, do bring a [worldwide] flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh [living things], wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee [Noah] will I [God] establish my [everlasting] covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark [of safety], thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee [to keep yourselves alive].” Genesis 6:17, 18. So, God sent a worldwide flood upon the earth in about 2302 B.C.

We see then that the everlasting covenant that was established with Adam and Eve and all their descendants, was also established with Noah and his family, eight persons in all, and their descendants who would live on earth after the worldwide flood. That is, God did not abandon his plans to save humanity, even though God was forced to destroy all human beings then living, except for eight persons.

The Everlasting Covenant After the Worldwide Flood

Now, what would happen to God’s everlasting covenant after the flood and God’s promise that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, would be born on earth?

Well, after the worldwide flood, evil again became widespread on the earth and “the LORD [God]…said unto Abram [whose name God later changed to Abraham], Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred [relatives], and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew [show] thee.” Genesis 12:1.

“And I [God] will make of thee [Abraham] a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee [Abraham] shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:2, 3.

When God said, “in thee [Abraham] shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3), He meant that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, would be born on earth as a descendant of Abraham. Why did God choose Abraham? Because Abraham was godly in the midst of all the wickedness on earth.

And, as was said before, through Jesus Christ, God planned to save the human race to eternal life, even though they would have sinned and deserved annihilation by God. That is, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the One who would be born on earth to be a blessing to all humanity, and so God established His everlasting covenant with Abraham.

“So Abram [Abraham] departed, as the LORD [God] had spoken unto him; and Lot [his nephew] went with him: and Abram [Abraham] was seventy and five [75] years old when he departed out of Haran.” Genesis 12:4. This was in the year 1875 B.C.

“And Abram [Abraham] took Sarai [Sarah] his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls [the persons] that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.” Genesis 12:5.

“And the LORD [God] appeared unto Abram [Abraham], and said, Unto thy seed [descendants] will I give this land [the land of Canaan]: and there builded he [Abraham] an altar unto the LORD [God], who appeared unto him.” Genesis 12:7.

At another time, “he [God] brought him [Abraham] forth abroad [outdoors], and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed [descendants] be.” Genesis 15:5.

We see then that God, in accordance with the everlasting covenant, promised godly Abraham the land of Canaan, many descendants, and that he would be an ancestor of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Oath

Now God says, “After these things the word of the LORD [God] came unto Abram [Abraham] in a vision [which is supernatural mental imagery from God], saying, Fear not, Abram [Abraham]: I [God] am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” Genesis 15:1.

“And Abram [Abraham] said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram [Abraham] said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed [no child]: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.” Genesis 15:2, 3. So, Abraham was beginning to wonder if he would indeed be the ancestor of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

“And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.” Genesis 15:4.

“And he [God] said unto him [Abraham], Take me an heifer [a female calf] of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” Genesis 15:9.

“And he [Abraham] took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst [cut them in two], and laid each piece one against [opposite] another: but the birds divided he not.” Genesis 15:10.

“And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram [Abraham]; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.” Genesis 15:12.

“And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp [symbols of God’s divine presence] that passed between those pieces. In the same day the LORD [God] made a[n] [everlasting] covenant with Abram [Abraham], saying, Unto thy seed [descendants] have I given this land [of Canaan].” Genesis 15:17, 18.

“For men [human beings] verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of [His] promise the immutability [unchangeableness] of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath.” Hebrews 6:16, 17.

“That by two immutable [unchangeable] things [first, God’s promise and, second, God’s oath], in which it was impossible for God to lie, we [the righteous] might have a strong consolation [comfort], who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope [of eternal life] set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast [steadfast].” Hebrews 6:18, 19.

Thus, the everlasting covenant was confirmed to Abraham by God with an oath in 1875 B.C. in order to settle the matter in Abraham’s heart and in the hearts of all who would live afterwards. That is, humanity could be assured that God, through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, would indeed fulfil the promises of the everlasting covenant. No part of the covenant will fail to come to pass.

The Law and the Everlasting Covenant

In the course of time, Abraham had a son named Isaac, and Isaac had a son named Jacob, and God changed Jacob’s name to “Israel.” Genesis 32:28. And so, the descendants of Jacob came to be known as “the children of Israel” (Genesis 32:32) or “the Israelites.” Exodus 9:7.

Jacob, that is to say, Israel, migrated to Egypt during a famine to find food and there in Egypt his descendants became numerous. The Egyptians made the Israelites to serve them as slaves until God delivered the Israelites from slavery through a leader named Moses, whom God chose. The nation of the Israelites, numbering about 2 million people, departed from Egypt in the year 1445 B.C.

In that same year, in 1445 B.C., at Mount Sinai, “God spake all these words” (Genesis 20:1), “the ten commandments” (Exodus 34:28.), in the hearing of all the Israelites. Afterwards, “he [God] gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing [speaking] with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” Exodus 31:18.

These written ten commandments are to be found in Exodus 20:1-17 in the Bible. God refers to these ten commandments, also called the Decalogue or the Moral Law, as “a law, and commandments which I have written.” Exodus 24:12.

Now God had promised Abraham that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, would be a descendant of Isaac, and God had also promised Isaac that Jesus would be descendant of Jacob, that is, of Israel. Here then, in giving the ten commandments to the nation of Israel, God established His everlasting covenant with Israel.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace and the Promise to Abraham

As written in the first century A.D., God records in the Bible, “The book of the generation [of the genealogy] of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” Matthew 1:1. So, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was actually born on earth just as God had promised as an Israelite, who are now also called “the Jews.” 2 Kings 16:6.

A disciple of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, named Paul wrote under the inspiration of God, “Brethren, I speak after the manner of men [of humanity]; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.” Galatians 3:15.

“Now to Abraham and his seed [his Descendant] were the promises [of God] made. He [God] saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace].” Galatians 3:16.

Thus, God is saying that, ultimately, His promises to Abraham were really promises to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who would be born as Abraham’s Descendant.

That is, it was to Jesus that God promised many spiritual descendants, who would be all the righteous people who had ever lived, in other words, who would be the true disciples of Jesus. In addition, God promised Jesus a spiritual land, not the physical land of Canaan on earth, but the heavenly Canaan. That is to say, God promised Jesus heaven itself, which is God’s dwelling place, as an eternal home for Jesus’ spiritual descendants.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace and the Cleansing of Humanity from Sin

Now God says, “And this I [God] say, that the [everlasting] covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ [by God’s oath to Abraham in 1875 B.C.], the [Decalogue or Moral] law [consisting of ten commandments], which was four hundred and thirty years after [in 1445 B.C.], cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of [the everlasting covenant of] none effect.” Galatians 3:17.

“For if the inheritance [of Jesus, the Prince of Peace’s true disciples] be of the [works of the] law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.” Galatians 3:18.

What does this mean? First of all, the inheritance of Jesus’ true disciples, as was said before, is eternal life in heaven itself. (Note that in the end, heaven, God’s dwelling place, God’s throne, will move to the earth itself where God will live with the saved of humanity forever—see Revelation Chapters 21 and 22 in the Bible.)

Second, the Jews on a whole practiced “the works of the law” (Romans 9:32) which means that they sought to be saved by God to eternal life through their own efforts at keeping God’s commandments. That is, the Jews sought to cleanse themselves of sin which we saw earlier in this post, is an impossibility. For, to repeat, God says, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” Job 14:4.

Thus, God is saying, if the Jews were correct, and you could cleanse yourself from sin, then you would have earned the right to eternal life and God’s promise to give eternal life as a gift would have been made of none effect.

For God’s desire was “that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles [the unbelievers in God] through Jesus Christ [the Prince of Peace]; that we might receive the promise of the [gift of the Holy] Spirit through faith [in Jesus].” Galatians 3:14.

In other words, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, had said “I [Christ] will put enmity” (Genesis 3:15), a hatred for sin and Satan, in your hearts. Thus, Jesus Christ would by His promised work on behalf of humanity, have paved the way for the gift of the Holy Spirit to cleanse persons from sin. The Holy Spirit would come upon those persons willing to receive the gift, who only can become Jesus’ true disciples.

So, there is NO OTHER WAY than Jesus, the Prince of Peace, putting enmity in human hearts for any human being to be made free from sin and, hence, be saved to eternal life. No other way for there to be peace on the earth.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace and the Saved

Moreover, God says, “And if ye be Christ’s [if you are a true disciple of Jesus, the Prince of Peace], then are ye Abraham’s seed [descendants], and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29.

Here then, God declares that all the promises in the Bible that were made to the literal nation of Israel, the Jews, belong, specifically, to Jesus’ true disciples, who are known as “the Israel of God.” Galatians 6:16. And this is why God says, “all Israel shall be saved” (Romans 11:26), in that, every member of the Israel of God shall be saved to eternal life.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and Humanity’s Sin Bearer

As was said before, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born on earth over 2,000 years ago.

Now God says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth [the Prince of Peace] with the Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit] and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Garden of Gethsamane

And “when Jesus [the Prince of Peace] knew that his hour [to die as humanity’s Sin Bearer] was come” (John 13:1), “then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder [over there].” Matthew 26:36.

“And he [Jesus] took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he [Jesus] unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.” Matthew 26:37, 38.

“And he [Jesus] was withdrawn from them about [the distance of] a stone’s cast [away], and kneeled down, and prayed, saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:41, 42.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Great Horror

There, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was experiencing the fullness of what came upon Abraham when “lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him [Abraham].” Genesis 15:12.

What was this horror? Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was surrounded by Satan and his evil angels, pressing the darkness of doubt of God, and tempting Jesus to give up on humanity and not to pay the penalty for humanity’s sins.

Further, the horror of the guilt of all the sins of entire human race came upon Jesus, as the Prince of Peace. Moreover, there was the horror of the resulting splitting apart of the Godhead, in that, Jesus was separated from the other the Father, something that had never happened before, and which brought anguish to Jesus’ heart.

“And there appeared an angel unto him [Jesus] from heaven, strengthening him [Jesus]. And being in an agony he [Jesus] prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” Luke 22:43, 44.

All this Jesus, the Prince of Peace, suffered on behalf of the human race, including the risk of Himself falling into sin, which would make His separation from the Father permanent. What love was this for the undeserving human race!

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Pays the Ultimate Price

So, it came to pass that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was put to death by wicked human hands, and in dying He exhausted the penalty of eternal death (annihilation) for the sins of all humanity.

Thus, “God…raised up Jesus [from death to live again forevermore]…[and] Him [Jesus] hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince [the Prince of Peace] and a Saviour [as the One who saves humanity from annihilation].” Acts 5:30, 31.

We see then that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is humanity’s Sin Bearer, the One who paid the ultimate price of giving His life for the sins of the human race.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Curse of the Law

Now God says, “Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] hath redeemed us [humanity] from the curse of the [Decalogue or Moral] law, being made a curse for us [for humanity]: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.” Galatians 3:13.

That is, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, hung on a t-shaped wooden structure called a cross and was, therefore, cursed, but not for Himself, but for us, the human race.

“For he [God] hath made him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] to be sin for us [for humanity], who knew no sin; that we [humanity] might be made the righteousness of God in him [Jesus].” 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and Sin

“For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through [because of] the flesh [the sinful nature], God sending his own Son [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] in the likeness of sinful flesh [sinful human beings], and for [the sake of] sin, condemned sin in the flesh [in humanity]: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh [who do not live in accordance with the sinful nature], but after the Spirit [but live in accordance with the Holy Spirit’s ways of love].” Romans 8:3, 4.

Thus, “there is therefore now no condemnation [of God and His Moral Law] to them which are in [a spiritual connection with] Christ Jesus [the Prince of Peace], who walk not after the flesh [who do not live in accordance with the sinful nature], but after the Spirit [but live in accordance with the Holy Spirit’s ways of love].” Romans 8:1.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Joint-Heirs

“For as many [persons] as are led by the [Holy] Spirit of God, they are the sons [and daughters] of God [that is to say, they are qualified by Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to receive eternal life from God].” Romans 8:14.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage [who is Satan] again to fear [death]; but ye have received the [Holy] Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15.

“The [Holy] Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit [our mind], that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,]; if so be that we suffer [tribulations] with him [Jesus], that we may be also glorified [receive a glorious spiritual body] together [with Jesus].” Romans 8:16, 17.

Thus, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has taken away the curse of the law, has overcome the sinful nature on humanity’s behalf, and made the righteous among humanity joint-heirs with Him to the promises of the everlasting covenant.

Now as joint-heirs with Jesus, the Prince of Peace, the righteous are recognised by God as peacemakers, since they work to win persons to Jesus Christ’s ways of love. Therefore, as joint-heirs, the righteous have spiritual descendants in those they have won to Jesus Christ and, therefore, they inherit the heavenly Canaan with Jesus.

In all this, no merit is due to the righteous but to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, whose work will lead to peace on earth.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the New Testament (New Will)

Again, we look at another reason why Jesus is the Prince of Peace. This time we consider the new testament, otherwise called the new covenant, in the sense of a new will.

Now God says, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, “he is the mediator of the new testament [the new will], that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions [sins] that were under the first testament [the first will], they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance [which is eternal life].” Hebrews 9:15.

“For where a testament [will] is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator [the one who made the will]. For a testament [will] is of force [effect] after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator [the one who made the will] liveth.” Hebrews 9:16, 17.

“Whereupon neither the first testament [first will] was dedicated without blood.” Hebrews 9:18.

“For when Moses had spoken every precept [moral instruction] to all the people according to the [Moral] law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and [a plant named] hyssop, and sprinkled both the book [of the law written by Moses that applied the Moral law which was written by God], and all the people [of Israel], saying, This is the blood of the testament [will] which God hath enjoined [commanded] unto you.” Hebrews 9:19, 20.

That is, “without shedding of blood is no remission [no forgiveness of sins and cleansing from sins].” Hebrews 9:22. For the shedding of the blood of animals was meant by God to point people to the future death of Jesus, the Peace, and to cause them to have faith in His work for humanity.

In other words, “it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.” Hebrews 10:4. Only the shedding of the blood of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, in fulfillment of the everlasting covenant, could result in a person’s sins being forgiven and being cleansed.

Thus, the first testament (first will) was only symbolic and it is the new testament (new will) of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, that is the will that has everlasting validity and effect given that Jesus, the testator, has died.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Sprinkling of Blood

Now the question arises, In what way does the shedding of the blood of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, result in the forgiveness and cleansing from sin?

Well, God says, “For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer [female calf] sprinkling the unclean [the sinful person], sanctifieth [cleansed] to the purifying of the flesh [of the sinful nature]: How much more shall the blood of Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,], who through the eternal [Holy] Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:13, 14.

What does all this mean? Well, God gave to Israel a number of ceremonies which involved the sprinkling of the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer for the forgiveness of sins. This was a daily occurrence at the sanctuary, a structure in Israel dedicated to the worship of God, where people came to seek forgiveness of their sins.

The person, having participating in the appropriate sanctuary ceremony was considered forgiven of their sins by God.

But the ceremony was only symbolic of a heavenly reality regarding Jesus, the Prince of Peace. For, even though Jesus bore the sins of the whole human race on the cross, it did not mean that every human being was, therefore, automatically forgiven of every sin they would ever commit.

That is, every sin that human beings commit is recorded in the heavenly sanctuary in God’s book. But the sins of those participating in the sanctuary ceremonies who had deep remorse and sorrow (had repentance) for their sins and who had faith in Jesus, the Prince of Peace, were, figuratively speaking, sprinkled with the blood of Jesus.

This meant that the merits of Jesus’ sinless life on earth and His death for “the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2) were accepted by God as a substitute for the death of the sinner for their own sin. And forgiven was, thus, recorded against the specific sins in God’s book in heaven that they had repented of.

Thus, only through the “sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ [the Prince of Peace]” (1 Peter 1:2) could persons be forgiven of their own past sins and, simultaneously, be cleansed from their sins so that they stop sinning.

It is important to grasp the point that it is only those persons who have all their sins forgiven and cleansed by through Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will receive eternal life from God. In other words, one sin unrepented of will result in the person being annihilated by God.

Therefore, when all people who are willing become righteous through Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and so receive eternal life, and also all the wicked are annihilated, then and only then, will there be peace on earth forever.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and What He Nailed to the Cross

We come now to consider the question, What did Jesus, the Prince of Peace, nail to His cross? In other words, what did Jesus do away with?

Again, God says, “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh [the unsubdued sinful nature], hath he [Jesus, the Prince of Peace] quickened [made alive] together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses [all sins]; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.” Colossians 2:13, 14.

We see here that it was “the handwriting of ordinances” (Colossians 2:14), that is to say, all the sanctuary ceremonies, known as the Ceremonial Law, which was handwritten by Moses in the “book of the law” (Deuteronomy 29:21), also called “the book of the covenant” (Exodus 2:7) which Israel made with God, that was nailed to Jesus’ cross.

As was said before, God wrote the ten commandments, that is to say, the Decalogue or Moral Law, Himself on tables of stone. This has never, nor shall never, be done away with for it is an expression of God’s character of love.

But, the Ceremonial Law, was temporary to point Israel to the coming of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. But the Jews lost sight of its significance and they did “bind [to the Ceremonial Law] heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s [people’s] shoulders.” Matthew 23:4.

This is why the Ceremonial Law, which God intended to be a blessing, came to be “against us…[human beings, and] was contrary to us [human beings].” Colossians 2:14.

So, God says, “Let no man [person] therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow [a symbol] of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” Colossians 2:16, 17. “For in him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead [in] bodily [form].” Colossians 2:9.

Note that here when God speaks of “the sabbath days [of the Ceremonial Law]” (Colossians 2:16), the seventh-day weekly Sabbath is excluded from what Jesus, the Prince of Peace, did way with.

For God says, “that [all people who] join themselves to the LORD [God], to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD [God], to be his servants, every one that keepeth the [seventh-day weekly] sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my [everlasting] covenant [through Jesus, the Prince of Peace]; Even them will I [God] bring to my holy mountain [in heaven to live eternally with me].” Isaiah 56:6, 7.

Jesus the Prince of Peace and the Middle Wall of Partition

Here is another reason why Jesus is the Prince of Peace. God says, “Remember, that ye…[were] in time past Gentiles [non-Jews] in the flesh [and unbelievers in God], who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made [done] by hands [that is, the Jews].” Ephesians 2:11.

“That at that time ye were without Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace], being aliens from the commonwealth [nation] of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise [made with Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, etc.], having no hope [of being saved from annihilation by God], and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus [the Prince of Peace] ye who sometimes [once] were far off [from God] are made nigh [near] by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:12, 13.

“For he [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] is our peace [with God], who hath made both [non-Jews and Jews] one [Christian church], and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [the fence of exclusiveness and hostility built by the Jews] between us [Jews and non-Jews]; having abolished in his [Jesus’] flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances [the Ceremonial Law]; for to make in himself [Jesus] of twain [of both Jews and non-Jews] one new man [one new human being], so making peace [with God for the human race].” Ephesians 2:14, 15.

“And that he might reconcile both [Jews and non-Jews] unto God in one body [one Christian church of believers in Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] by the cross, having slain [put to death] the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace [with God] to you [non-Jews] which were afar off [from God], and to them [the Jews] that were nigh [near to God by reason of their having God’s Moral Law].” Ephesians 2:16, 17.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Inheritance of the Righteous

Now God prophesied of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, that in the end “He [Jesus] shall see of the travail [labour] of his soul [which is all those saved through Him], and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge [of God’s ways of love] shall my righteous servant [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] justify [declare as righteous] many [people]; for he shall bear their iniquities [their sins].” Isaiah 53:11.

“Therefore will I [God] divide him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] a portion with the great [with God], and he [Jesus] shall divide the spoil [the inheritance] with the strong [those people who are saved by God]; because he [Jesus] hath poured out his soul unto death: and he [Jesus] was numbered with the transgressors [the sinners]; and he [Jesus] bare the sin of many [of all humanity], and made intercession [prayers to God] for the transgressors [sinners].” Isaiah 53:12.

What does it mean when God says, “Therefore will I [God] divide him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] a portion with the great [with God]” (Isaiah 53:12)?

This refers to the fact that, for all eternity in the future, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is supernaturally “the head of the body” (Colossians 1:18) and the saved among the human race are “members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” Ephesians 5:30. “For in him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] we live, and move, and have our being.” Acts 17:28.

That is to say, that for all the ceaseless ages to come, the saved among humanity have a special relationship to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, in that they are Jesus’ portion of all the created intelligent beings in the universe. And also, in this special relationship, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is He whom “God [who] so loved the world…gave [as] his only begotten Son” (John 3:16) to the human race.

The saved among humanity then can say, “My beloved [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] is mine, and I am his.” Song of Solomon 2:16.

Therefore, God says, “The LORD [God] knoweth the days of the upright [the righteous]: and their inheritance [of the heavenly Canaan] shall be for ever.” Psalm 37:18.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the Annihilation of the Wicked

Sadly, though, God says, “evildoers shall be cut off [annihilated by God]” (Psalm 37:9), that is to say, “they that be cursed of him [of God, because of their refusal to turn from their sins] shall be cut off [annihilated by God].” Psalm 37:22.

For they “were judged out of those things which were written in the books [in heaven], according to their works [deeds].” Revelation 20:12. “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life [that is, all those who had one or more sins unrepented of and, hence, not forgiven by God through Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] was cast into the lake of fire [to be burnt to ashes and never to live anymore].” Revelation 20:15.

Thus, there will be those people who never sought during their lifetime to be benefitted by the work of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and who will, therefore, lose eternal life.

Why Jesus is the Prince of Peace and Not the King of Peace

Let us at this point, answer the question that you may be asking: Why is Jesus called the Prince of Peace and not the King of Peace?

Well, God says, “For as in Adam all [human beings] die, even so in Christ [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] shall all [humanity] be made alive. But every man [every person] in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s [true disciples] at his [second] coming [to the earth].” 1 Corinthians 15:22, 23.

“Then cometh the end, when he [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,] shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he [Jesus] shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he [Jesus] must reign, till he [God, the Father] hath put all enemies under his [Jesus’] feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death [Satan].” 1 Corinthians 15:24-26.

“For he [God, the Father] hath put all things under his [Jesus’] feet. But when he [God, the Father] saith all things are put under him [Jesus, the Prince of Peace,], it is manifest that he [God, the Father] is excepted, which did put all things under him [Jesus].” 1 Corinthians 15:27.

“And when all things shall be subdued unto him [God, the Father], then shall the Son [Jesus] also himself be subject unto him [God, the Father] that put all things under him [Jesus], that God may be all in all.” 1 Corinthians 15:28.

Here then is the reason why Jesus is the Prince of Peace and not the King of Peace. It is God, the Father, who is the King of Peace.

Conclusion

Here in this post, we have unpacked our Bible verse of focus: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6.

We have seen many of the key reasons why Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and it is all wonderful and full of the glory of God.

Let us the praise God for His goodness towards humanity in giving Jesus to the human race as the Prince of Peace. With all that God has done to save us from annihilation, make sure that you are not among them that lose eternal life.

The Bible Teaches Us How to Obtain Eternal Life from God

“In the beginning was the Word [Christ], and the Word [Christ] was with God, and the Word [Christ] was God.” John 1:1. “And the Word [Christ] was made flesh [was born as a baby boy named Jesus], and dwelt among us [human beings], (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father).” John 1:14. Thus, Christ, whose “name is called The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13) is the One who gave the whole Bible to humanity, from the Bible’s beginning to its end. Further, “God is love.” (1 John 4:8), which is to say, Christ is love.

And every one of you as a human being are to “lay apart [put away] all filthiness and superfluity [abundance] of naughtiness [of wickedness], and receive with meekness the engrafted [the implanted] word [from God, which is the Bible and], which is able to save your souls [from annihilation by God as the penalty for sin].” James 1:21. For the word of God, the Bible, being implanted in us means that “the love of God is shed abroad [is poured] in our hearts by the Holy Ghost [the Holy Spirit] which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5. So then, “love is of God; and every one [every human being] that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” 1 John 4:7. This is known as “justification” (Romans 4:25) which is accomplished by our repentance, that is, our deep sorrow for our sins and the gift of faith from God, which when exercised to believe God’s promise of forgiveness of sins and cleansing from sin brings us the gift of love from God. Note that everyone receives the gift of faith from God but without repentance people have a superficial faith and not saving (correct) faith that takes proper hold of God’s truth by the working of the Holy Spirit.

Immediately upon our justification, God tests our character to see if we will successfully resist all temptation to sin. Our success depends on our exercising faith in Christ’s keeping power through the Holy Spirit and, hence, we become sanctified (made holy) and thus receive eternal life from God.

And this is life eternal [everlasting life], that they [as human beings] might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent [to the earth as a Deliverer from sin].” John 17:3. Thus, when the whole Bible makes our character a character of perfect love, it means that we know God and, hence, we will receive eternal life from God.
