The Blessing of the Lord It Makes Rich

The Blessing of the Lord It Makes Rich

There is one blessing from God from which all other blessings flow. For God blesses humanity in millions of ways and in His word, the Bible, there are thousands upon thousands of promises of God’s blessing.

In this post then, we will look at how the supreme blessing of the Lord it makes rich.

Our Bible Quotation of Focus

We will begin by looking at what the Bible says in our Bible quotation of focus.

“The blessing of the LORD [God], it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22.

First of all, for those who are new to Bible notation, “Proverbs 10:22” is a reference to the Bible, which itself is a collection of books. In the Bible, each book consists of one or more chapters, and each chapter has numbered sections called verses. The quotation referred to as “Proverbs 10:22” is taken from the book of Proverbs in the Bible, the 10th chapter, and the 22nd verse.

Key Things to Know About God

God is a Family of three divine Persons, namely, the Father, the Son called Christ, and the Holy Spirit. This Family is known as “the Godhead” (Acts 17:29) in the Bible. What is God like? “God is love.” 1 John 4:8.

The Supreme Blessing

God says, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” Isaiah 45:22.

The obvious question that arises is, Saved from what? Saved from eternal death (annihilation) due to the fact that every human being is born with a disposition to sin, which is evil and wrongdoing.

This disposition to do evil was inherited from the first human pair, a man named Adam and a woman named Eve. Both Adam and Eve were created perfect and holy by God but they fell into sin.

Again, you may be asking, Saved to what? The answer is saved to receive eternal life from God.

How? Well, “Christ hath redeemed us [humanity] from the curse of the law [God’s law of love], being made a curse for us [humanity]: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing…might come…through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the [Holy] Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13, 14.

Who is Jesus Christ? Jesus is the name given to Christ when He was born in human flesh over 2,000 years ago. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth, was murdered, was raised from the dead by God on the third day after His death, and He has ascended to heaven.

By His death, Christ took away the curse of eternal death (annihilation) from humanity and instead gave humanity the blessing of the Holy Spirit.

What does the Holy Spirit do? The Spirit enables every human being to turn from their sins and to takes hold of God’s promises by faith so that they live in accordance with God’s law of love.

All of this is a part of God’s plan to save humanity which is known as “the gospel” Matthew 4:23.

So, God says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift [Jesus Christ] is from above [from heaven], and cometh down from the Father…with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning [not even the varying of a shadow as the earth turns].” James 1:17.

“For ye know the grace [unmerited favour] of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be [spiritually] rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9) in love. This then is God’s supreme blessing of humanity.

Showers of Blessing

Now God says, “There shall be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26.

“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither [there], but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my [God’s] word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10, 11.

That is, “the word of his [God’s] grace [His unmerited favour]…is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified [made holy by God].” Acts 20:32.

This is “the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ” (Romans 15:29) whereby God has “blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3.

For, through the workings of the Holy Spirit, individuals go “from faith to [increased] faith.” Romans 1:17. Hence, “they go from [moral] strength to [increased moral] strength” (Psalm 84:7) until they are sanctified, made holy.

How? This happens when “we all, with open [unveiled] face beholding as in a glass [mirror] the glory [character of love] of the Lord [Christ], are changed into the same image from glory [character] to glory [character], even as by the  [Holy] Spirit of the Lord [Christ].” 2 Corinthians 3:18.

The Blessing When We Choose Eternal Life

Now God says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art…called [by God].” 1 Timothy 6:12.

Such persons, having chosen eternal life, “shall receive the blessing from the LORD [God], and righteousness from the God of …[their] salvation” (Psalm 24:5), their saving from eternal death (annihilation). They “shalt be blessed above all people [on earth].” Deuteronomy 7:14.

The Blessing When We Obey God’s Law of Love

Now God says, “Whoso [whosoever] looketh into the perfect law of liberty [God’s law of love], and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:25.

So, there is “a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God.” Deuteronomy 11:27.

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.” Psalm 119:1. “Blessed…[is] he [or she] that doeth righteousness at all times.” Psalm 106:3.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1.

“Blessed is the man that feareth [has reverence for] the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” Psalm 112:1.

“Blessed are they that…seek him [God] with the whole heart.” Psalm 119:2. “Blessings are upon the head of the just.” Proverbs 10:6.

All these then are blessings which you will receive on obedience to God’s law of love.

The Blessing When We Trust in God

God says, “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD [God] his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” Psalm 40:4.

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD [God], and whose hope the LORD [God] is.” Jeremiah 17:7.

“O taste and see that the LORD [God] is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalm 34:8.

God is delighted when we trust in Him and He blesses all such persons.

The Blessing on Those Who are a Blessing

God says, “Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth thither [there] the feet of the ox and the ass.” Isaiah 32:20.

What does this mean? The answer is that God blesses those who spread the gospel everywhere, thereby sowing the gospel seed, and who make disciples whom they send out to also spread the gospel.

Such persons cause people to make peace with God “for the LORD [God] hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD [God].” Jeremiah 25:31.

Thus, God declares, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9) and not “the children of the devil [Satan]” (1 John 3:10), an angel who is the enemy of God and humanity.

So then, God pronounces a blessing on those who are a blessing to others, so that these others might be saved by God.

The Blessing of God’s Favour

God says, “Blessed is he [or she] whose transgression [sin] is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man [or woman] unto whom the LORD imputeth not [does not reckon] iniquity [wickedness], and in whose spirit [mind] there is no guile [deceit].” Psalm 32:1, 2.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12.

Of such persons, God says, “O…[you are] satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD [God].” Deuteronomy 33:23.

The Blessing Makes Spiritually Rich

God says, “Salvation belongeth unto the LORD [God]: thy blessing is upon thy people.” Psalm 3:8.

“That their hearts might be comforted, being knit [joined] together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” Colossians 2:2.

“That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute [of their wealth], willing to communicate [share].” 1 Timothy 6:18.

Such persons can say of themselves in truth, We are “in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God.” 2 Corinthians 6:4. Though the world sees us “as poor, yet [we are] making many [spiritually] rich; as having nothing, and yet [we are] possessing all [spiritual] things.” 2 Corinthians 6:10.

So, God’s blessing of salvation then makes people spiritually rich.

The Blessing of Being Crowned by God

God says, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord [God] hath promised to them that love him.” James 1:12.

“When the chief Shepherd [Christ] shall appear [shall come to the earth a second time], ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” 1 Peter 5:4.

That is, you will receive “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” 1 Peter 1:4.

Such persons can say of themselves in truth, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord [Christ], the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8) for a second time.

To such persons, God says, “Hold that fast [securely] which thou hast, that no man take thy crown” (Revelation 3:11), that is, take away your blessing.

The Blessing of Inheriting God’s Kingdom

“Hearken [listen], my beloved…Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith [in God], and heirs of the kingdom [of God] which he hath promised to them that love him?” James 2:5.

So, when “the time came that the saints [true followers of Christ known as Christians] possessed the kingdom” (Daniel 7:22), God will say “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 25:34.

“And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him [God].” Daniel 7:27.

“The saints of the most High [God] shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.” Daniel 7:18.

Thus, God pronounces the blessing of inheriting the kingdom of God upon the saints.

The Blessing of Joy

God says, “The ransomed of the LORD [God] shall…come to…[heaven] with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” Isaiah 35:10.

This is “the joy of thy [God’s] salvation.” Psalm 51:12. Therefore, all those who will be saved can say, “I will rejoice in the LORD [God], I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18.

I “shall joy in thy [moral] strength, O LORD [God]; and in thy salvation how greatly shall…[I] rejoice!” Psalm 21:1.

Reaping Sorrow

There will sadly be people of whom God says, “Many sorrows shall be to the wicked.” Psalm 32:10.

“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god.” Psalm 16:4.

“The wicked is reserved to the day of destruction [judgment day]…they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.” Job 21:30.

Such people reap sorrow instead of a blessing from God.

Conclusion

We have seen then the truth of God’s declaration: “The blessing of the LORD [God], it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22.

So, God says, “All things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace [unmerited favour of God] might through the thanksgiving of many [for their salvation] redound [abound] to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:15.

Dear friend, you who are reading this post, “seek the LORD [God].” Psalm 105:3.

Then you will be able to say in truth, “All those that seek thee [shall] rejoice and be glad in thee…[they] such as love thy salvation [shall] say continually, The LORD be magnified.” Psalm 40:16. “I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.” Psalm 9:2.
